AURORA has made a name for herself as one of Norway’s most recognisable stars. With billions of streams on Spotify, the songstress made her way to Australia for a series of sold-out shows.
The crowd was buzzing when AURORA hit the stage, and immediately, she brought the intensity with “Churchyard”, with a wave of percussion-based sound that filled the venue.
The ethereality of AURORA’s voice was immediately striking in the set, with the singer showcasing incredible power in her upper register with jaw-dropping vocals. She sang “The River” fairly early on in the set with an extended high note gaining rapturous applause from the audience.
The vibe was fairly dark throughout the majority of the set, with the fragility of AURORA’s voice accentuating the pain and grittiness of the lyrics. Yet the crowd, which was packed to the absolute brim to the point where people were queued up the stairs of the venue, was transfixed, swaying to every note that the singer hit.
AURORA was engaging in between songs, sharing political messages with the crowd and swapping anecdotes about her time in Australia. The crowd was receptive, responding particularly well to her quirky sense of humour.
“Not all people think I’m funny,” she said at one point. “It’s just you guys.”
But for all the charisma that AURORA showed on stage, it was her voice that had the crowd in awe for the majority of the set. When she sang “Exist for Love”, the melodic timbre of her voice moved rapidly through the venue, capturing the audience in a wonderful moment.
The big hits also did not disappoint with the crowd singing along as AURORA sang “Runaway”, which the singer described as the song that started it all for her. After this, she moved into some darker numbers to close out the main set, mixing up dance beats with soft pop sounds to create a unique effect.
For her encore, AURORA performed “Cure for Me” and “Some Type of Skin” before sitting down at the piano to perform “Invisible Wounds.” This provided an extra dimension to the set and was a great way to finish the night.
Overall, this was a strong concert that showcased the very best of AURORA and her incredible vocal capabilities. The audience loved the show and created a fantastic atmosphere, which was much appreciated by the headliner and her band. The show was varied and unique and as such, was certainly a show that those in attendance will remember for a long time.
